Curiosity

The Webster definition of curiosity is: A desire to know

My personal definition of curiosity: is the motivation to seek. Desire seems to me something so stagnant. When I lead with curiosity I feel that forward momentum I like to work with. Rather than leading with the end goal in mind. I know the end goal, the curiosity gives me direction.

My personal curiosity in my life and my work has been the spark of many decisions and has guided my compass. It has allowed me to find my personal point of view’s in my art and life. When I lead with rigidity in some situations it gives me structure and necessary rules, but when I can lead with curiosity I find glimmers.

Curiosity does not always have to be listened to. Every spark does not turn to fire. We have the ability to choose what we ignite. But when we ignite it with purpose, boy is that flame beautiful.

What happens if we choose to use curiosity in our work when we need a new perspective, a new spark. Where could that lead. how would that change the process. This could lead to new outcomes, it also could lead to new consequences. Next time you don’t know what to do, maybe think about how you can be curious about the task, even if its one you’ve done a million times. If you want fresh results you have to be curious.

I think its a slippery slope curiosity, it helps you understand deeply, but not everything needs to be dug deeper into. Personally, I have to dig deep into understanding of everything. It’s the way my brain puts the world together. I have to find out. However, I truly do equate curiosity to a flame there is a time and place for this tool. Not to let curiosity consume; but when you’re stuck, and ready to grow it will lead you somewhere new.
